The Hamilton Lugar Student Government (HLSG) seeks to facilitate cohesion and collaboration among the students, faculty, administration, and departments within the School. The HLSG will be a liaison between faculty, staff, and students and hopes to foster peer mentorship and build community. Through HLSG, students will have the opportunity to shape the future of HLS.

Nazla Steinberger - President
International Law & Institutions, Middle Eastern Languages & Cultures
Nazla Steinberger is a junior from Boulder, CO, double majoring in International Law and Institutions as well as Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures. As President of HLSG, Nazla is committed to amplifying student voices and initiatives, advancing professional development opportunities, and promoting service initiatives both in Bloomington and beyond. When she’s not exploring the world with HLS, you’ll likely find her in the mountains of Colorado hiking with her dogs. Nazla is excited to be part of the first HLS student government and looks forward to helping build a more connected, collaborative community of global changemakers.
Nenika Grover - Vice President
International Law & Institutions
Nenika Grover is a junior from Dallas, Texas, pursuing a BA in International Law & Institutions with a minor in Spanish and a certificate in Public and Environmental Affairs. At IU, Nenika is the Vice President of the Hamilton Lugar Student Government and an active member/director of the Phi Chi Theta professional business fraternity (Zeta Eta Chapter). She currently works with the Law School Survey of Student Engagement (LSSSE) as a project management and research intern. After graduation, Nenika plans to attend law school and hopes to incorporate public policy into her legal education.
John Colonias - Treasurer
International Studies
John Colonias is a senior from New Jersey majoring in International Studies with a minor in Business. He is passionate about exploring the intersection of culture, commerce, and economics on a global scale. His academic journey has been complemented by multiple finance internships in New York, where he developed a strong interest in global markets and international business. Outside the classroom, he enjoys golfing, watching sports, and traveling in Europe (mostly Greece).
Erik Dabelko - Clerk
International Studies, Middle Eastern Languages & Cultures
Erik Dabelko is a sophomore double majoring in International Studies and Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures. Additionally, Erik is part of the Arabic Flagship program. Outside the classroom, Erik also participates in Indiana University Model United Nations and the IU Climbing Club. This past summer, Erik interned for Theophrastus Research Institute, editing and producing a proposal to UEFA For Children aimed at supporting education for asylum-seeking youth in Lesvos, Greece. After graduation, Erik hopes to study abroad in Morocco through the Flagship program.
Zara Huxford - Research/Dean’s Advisory Committee Chair
International Studies, East Asian Languages & Cultures
Zara Huxford is a senior double majoring in International Studies and East Asian Languages & Cultures (Chinese) with a minor in Economics. In the fall of 2024, she studied abroad in Taipei, Taiwan through the College of Arts & Sciences semester exchange at National Chengchi University. In addition to HLSG, she is also a member of Sigma Iota Rho and an undergraduate research assistant in IU’s Language and Cognition Lab. Outside of the classroom, you can often find her studying on campus or at the Ellettsville Starbucks where she works as a barista.
Celine Yang - Faculty & Curricular Relations Committee Chair
International Studies, East Asian Languages & Cultures
Celine Yang is a sophomore at Indiana University Bloomington, where she is pursuing a double major in International Studies and East Asian Languages and Cultures, with a regional concentration in China and Japan. She is a member of the Hutton Honors College, an active participant in the Chinese Flagship Program, and a resident of the Hamilton Lugar Living-Learning Center (LLC). In addition to her academic pursuits, Celine serves as a Chinese Flagship Student Ambassador and as a Resident Assistant for the Hamilton Lugar LLC, where she supports and mentors fellow students in building an engaged global community.
Her academic interests include cross-cultural exchange, language acquisition, and regional security in East Asia. She plans to study abroad in Japan and Taiwan during her junior and senior years to further develop her linguistic and cultural expertise. Outside of the classroom, Celine is a dedicated member of the Figure Skating Club of Indiana University. She also enjoys painting, and her artwork has been featured at First Thursdays, reflecting her commitment to creativity and community engagement.
Macy Pugh - Community Engagement Committee Chair
International Studies, Journalism
Macy Pugh is a sophomore from Lafayette, Indiana pursuing a B.A. in International Studies and Journalism. She is a member of the Web Content team for WIUX Student Radio, as well as the Native American Student Association (NASA). She hopes to study abroad in Spain or London during junior year.
Olivia O’Keefe - Alumni Relations Committee Chair
International Studies, Spanish
Olivia O'Keefe is a junior from Grand Rapids, Michigan, double majoring in International Studies and Spanish, pursuing a certificate in Peace Corps Preparation, and minoring in Italian. Outside of the Hamilton Lugar Student Government, she is a committee member of the Special Events Committee of IUDM. She studied abroad in the summer of 2024 in Florence, Italy, and hopes to continue her international experience by studying abroad in Madrid, Spain, next spring. After graduation, she hopes to go into the Peace Corps before continuing her postgraduate education.
Grace Anderson – Study Abroad Committee Chair

Grace Anderson is a senior from Columbus, Indiana, majoring in International Law and Institutions, as well as minoring in Norwegian. At IU, she is the Study Abroad Committee Chair for the Hamilton Lugar Student Government and an active member/project manager of Hamilton Lugar's Global Development Consulting Group. Outside of the classroom you find her studying at HLS or cooking up a new recipe in her kitchen! After graduation, she plans on completing a masters program related to International Relations and working within the migration field abroad.
Grace Velasquez - Academic, Scholarship, & Career Services Committee Chair

Grace Velasquez is a junior from the Chicago suburbs majoring in International Law and Institutions, with minors in Chinese, Business, and Criminal Justice. She is actively involved on campus, serving on the executive boards of Women in Law, the Latinx Law Student Association, and Hamilton Lugar Student Government. Outside of academics, Grace loves to travel, spend time with her twin sister and family, and explore new experiences. She plans to attend law school and pursue a career in international business and law.
