The Hamilton Lugar School’s Department of East Asian Languages & Cultures (EALC)’s undergraduate program offers a wealth of options for students interested in learning more about China, Japan, the Korean Peninsula, and Taiwan—past and present.
EALC is home to one of the largest and most multidisciplinary East Asian area studies departments in the United States. At IU, EALC majors combine study of Chinese, Japanese, or Korean language with expertise on East Asia cinema, history, international affairs, linguistics, literature, media, politics, society or other areas.
Already have a major (or two) and/or don’t have space in your schedule to tackle another language? Take on an EALC minor, with or without a language requirement.
